From Hendrix to Clapton to Eagles to Sting... rock and roll never dies at the Young Musicians' Camp... study your favorite songs... learn soloing techniques... master rhythm styles... all with an emphasis on performance... rock and roll is here to stay!

SO... If your child has been singing, or playing the PIANO, BASS, GUITAR, or DRUMS, for 1 year or more, then the INTERMEDIATE A ROCK PROGRAM is for you! Even If you don't have experience playing in a rock band... We welcome you to our Rock Program!

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The goal of this program is for your student to have a concentrated week of study to learn how the pros play Rock! Campers will spend 2 hours each day rehearsing in their Performing Ensembles, where they will improve on their technique and get better at playing different styles of Rock. All of our Rock faculty are both performers and educators and they are dedicated to creating a non-competitive environment that is conducive to learning. The camp also provides a safe environment for our campers. Counselors are on hand to help them in their activities. And don't forget to save the date - we end camp with a concert where every camper performs with their class!

REQUIREMENTS

  • Entering grades 6-8 in the fall.
  • Has studied their instrument for at least 1 year.
  • Completed Book 1 of a standard music series in their instrument or equivalent.
  • All applicants who meet the above requirements may enroll in the Camp.
  • Younger students may enroll with a Teacher Recommendation.
  • All bass and guitar players should bring their own instrument and a small amp and cable to Camp.

ENSEMBLE
Rock Band: Get coached by our pros!

10:15 - 11:15

ELECTIVE - No Experience Required!
Pop/Jazz/Rock Vocal Group - Take a break and have fun singing the music of today!
Composition: Campers will work together to create an original rock piece.

11:30 - 12:00

LUNCH (Lunch is included in the camp tuition)
After our morning classes, we take a short walk to the UM cafeteria. Campers will be able to select from the grill (hamburgers, hot dogs, French fries), salad bar, pizza, hot meal of the day, and the deli. There are also fresh fruits, desserts, beverages, and daily specials.

WORKSHOP
These classes concentrate on instrumental technique and improvisation - no experience required.

Jazz Rock Jam: jam out and have fun!
Piano Lab: whether you already play piano or if you want to learn, practice in our piano studio under the guidance of our expert instructors.
Private Instruction: Individual lessons with the Camp faculty!

PRIVATE LESSONS

Private lessons given by our camp staff may be scheduled after regular dismissal. We suggest 30 minute lessons for this age and level.

EXTENDED CARE

Supervised before and after care is available.
Before Care: 7:15 am - 9:00 am
After Care: 3:45 pm - 6:00 pm

BUS TRANSPORTATION

Bus transportation to the camp, located on the campus of the University of Miami in Coral Gables, is provided by a private bus company. If you do not see a location near your home, please contact the camp. It may be possible for us to add an additional location on one of our routes! (Note: the afternoon bus departs at the regular camp dismissal time of 3:45. Your child will be supervised in our after-care room from 2:45 - 3:45).

HOW TO APPLY

  • Review the Daily Schedule to learn about the classes offered, and choose your Electives and Optional Classes.
  • The Camp will email our "Teacher Recommendation Form" to your child's music teacher. This is to confirm that your camper is in the correct level. Make sure you know the e-mail address of your school or private music teacher before you start to register.
