Intermediate Songwriting Program

If you are entering grades 5-8 and have already started writing and performing your own songs or just want to learn how to get started, then we invite you to join us this summer for our brand new SONGWRITING PROGRAM! Learn what you need to know to become a Singer-Songwriter!

Program Length

2 weeks (Monday - Friday)

9:00 am - 3:45 pm (optional 6th class from 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm)

In this brand new program campers will be guided by professional songwriters in the Art of Songwriting. Working in small groups, each camper will take part in the process of creating an original song which will be performed at our final concert!


  • Entering grades 5-8 in the fall.
  • Has been singing, playing guitar or piano for at least 1 year.
  • Both campers with songwriting experience and little or no experience are welcome to enroll in this program.
  • All applicants who meet the above requirements may enroll in the Camp.

DAILY SCHEDULE (9:00 A.M. - 3:45 P.M.)

9:00 - 10:00

Contemporary Vocal Ensemble

10:15 - 11:15

This class concentrates on vocal technique, ear training and sight singing.

11:30 - 12:00

LUNCH (Lunch is included in the camp tuition)
After our morning classes, we walk to the UM cafeteria. Campers will be able to select from the grill (hamburgers, hot dogs, French fries), salad bar, pizza, hot meal of the day, and the deli. There are also fresh fruits, desserts, and beverages.

MUSIC SKILLS-Contemporary: Our Faculty makes learning music skills fun!

1:30 - 2:30

SONGWRITING WORKSHOP: Learn what the art of songwriting is all about! Whether you have already written songs or just are trying to teach yourself - learn how from a pro!

2:30 - 2:45

Snacks (chips, cookies) are served!

2:45 - 3:45

Songwriters will work within a group setting to write and arrange songs for their "band."



4:00 - 5:00

OPTIONAL CLASSES (separate fees apply)

Jazz Rock Jam: jam out and have fun! Singers and instruments!
Piano Lab: whether you already play piano or if you want to learn, practice in our piano studio under the guidance of our expert instructors.
Private Instruction: Individual lessons with the Camp faculty!


Private lessons given by our camp staff may be scheduled after regular dismissal. The lessons are one hour long and all of the instructors are part of our camp faculty. The classes are held daily except for the last day of the session. When you register, you can select the day that you want. The camp cannot re-schedule a missed private lesson.


Supervised before and after care is available.
Before Care: 7:15 am - 9:00 am
After Care: 3:45 pm - 6:00 pm

NOTE: students who enroll in an optional class from 4:00-5:00, may be supervised in After-Care from 5:00-6:00 for no additional After-Care charge. Please notify the camp if this applies to your camper!

Enrollment is limited for this program. You will be notified of your acceptance after the camp receives ALL application materials: Online Registration, Application Fee, Teacher Recommendation, and Audition Demo. Your full deposit (plus the dorm deposit if you are staying in the dorm) is due 3 days after receiving your acceptance letter.

  • Review the Daily Schedule to learn about the classes offered, and choose your Electives.
  • The Camp will email our "Teacher Recommendation Form" to your music teacher. This is to confirm that you are in the correct level. Make sure you know the e-mail address of your school or private music teacher before you start to register.
