If you are entering grades 5-8 and have been playing jazz for at least one year, then our INTERMEDIATE JAZZ PROGRAM is for you!

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The goal of this program is for campers to have a better feel for how the pros play JAZZ! They will get to play in 2 Jazz Bands and also have a technique class on their specific instrument! All of our JAZZ faculty are both performers and educators who are dedicated to giving campers the best experience possible! And don't forget to save the date - we end camp with a concert where every camper performs with their band!

REQUIREMENTS

  • Entering grades 5-8 in the fall.
  • Has studied their instrument for at least 1 year.
  • Completed Book 1 of a standard music series in their instrument.
  • On the first day of camp ‚Äì campers will be placed in a Jazz Group with other students at their skill level, based on an informal audition.
  • All bass, guitar, and wind players must bring their own instrument to Camp. (bass players and guitarists should also bring a small amp, a cart and a cable.) Dorm participants may rent an amp from the camp.
  • *There is limited enrollment for bass, drums, and piano.

INTERMEDIATE JAZZ PROGRAM

ENSEMBLE
Jazz Combos: working with a coach in small groups is a great learning experience.

10:15 - 11:15

WORKSHOP
These classes concentrate on instrumental technique and improvisation
Guitar Workshop
Wind Workshop
Rhythm Section Workshop (piano, bass, drums)

11:30 - 12:00

LUNCH (Lunch is included in the camp tuition)
In the UM Cafeteria, you will be able to select from the grill (hamburgers, hot dogs, French fries), salad bar, pizza, hot meal of the day, and the deli. Fresh fruits, desserts, and beverages are all included.

Piano Lab: whether you already play piano or if you want to learn, practice in our piano studio under the guidance of our expert instructors.

Private Instruction: Individual lessons with the Camp faculty!

PRIVATE LESSONS

Private lessons given by our camp staff may be scheduled after regular dismissal. The lessons are one hour long and all of the instructors are part of our camp faculty. The classes are held daily except for the last day of the session. When you register, you can select the day that you want. The camp cannot re-schedule a missed private lesson.

EXTENDED CARE

Supervised before and after care is available.
Before Care: 7:15 am - 9:00 am
After Care: 3:45 pm - 6:00 pm

NOTE: students who enroll in an optional class from 4:00-5:00, may be supervised in After-Care from 5:00-6:00 for no additional After-Care charge. Please notify the camp if this applies to your camper!

BUS TRANSPORTATION

HOW TO APPLY

  • Review the Daily Schedule to learn about the classes offered.
  • The Camp will email our "Teacher Recommendation Form" to your child's music teacher. This is to confirm that your camper is in the correct level. Make sure you know the e-mail address of your school or private music teacher before you start to register.
