TECHNOLOGY REQUIREMENTS

All classes will be conducted on online.

PERFORMING ENSEMBLE CLASSES and THEIR FINAL CONCERT

The daily performance ensembles will be taught in instrument specific groups. Our faculty will coach campers on their ensemble parts. Honors Jazz students will be coached by both their instrumental teachers and our Honors Jazz faculty. They will also receive their parts for the Crossover Orchestra to prepare for the final concert. Campers will need to record their parts on their home device and email it to the camp. Their camp teacher will guide campers through this process.

REQUIREMENTS

  • For Winds, Piano, Bass, Guitar, and Drum students entering grades 9-12. (extremely talented younger students are welcome to apply.)
  • A recommendation from your music teacher.
  • An audition demo is required: 10-minute maximum. All auditions must be submitted as a high-quality video file or a YouTube link. Send your demos to: youngmusicianscamp@gmail.com
  • Winds, Piano, and Guitar: submit the following 2 selections:
  • A ballad: no longer than 1 chorus.
  • Improvisation: play the head and solo on a jazz standard. This may be submitted with either a live group or with a jazz play-along.
  • Bass: Play the melody to a blues selection, improvise for 1 chorus and demonstrate 2 choruses of a walking bass line.
  • Drums: Play time in the following styles: Slow Swing (mm= 100/quarter note) and fast swing (mm=200/quarter note). If possible, record this with a bass player or combo. Also include a short excerpt performing with a combo to demonstrate small group playing, including trading 4's.
  • *There is limited enrollment for bass, drums, and piano.

Private Instruction: Individual lessons with the Camp faculty!

PRIVATE LESSONS

Private lessons given by our camp staff may be scheduled after regular dismissal. The lessons are one hour long and all of the instructors are part of our camp faculty. The classes are held daily except for the last day of the session. When you register, you can select the day that you want. The camp cannot re-schedule a missed private lesson.

HOW TO APPLY

  • Review the Daily Schedule to learn about the classes offered, and choose your Electives and Optional Classes.
  • The Camp will email our "Teacher Recommendation Form" to your child's music teacher. This is to confirm that your camper is in the correct level. Make sure you know the e-mail address of your school or private music teacher before you start to register.
