PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

This is a program designed for serious and highly advanced rock players and an audition is required. You will play in 2 Honors Rock Bands and guitarists will have a special honors rock guitar technique class with Brev Sullivan. Our Rock faculty are both performers and educators, so be prepared to be in a demanding group of classes taught by the Pros. With our small classes, the focus will be on you! Our goal is for you to leave our program as an all-around awesome Rock player!

REQUIREMENTS

DEADLINE: This Program has limited enrollment. Qualified students are accepted within 2 weeks after submitting their audition. Applications submitted AFTER APRIL 30 will be placed on a waiting list. We encourage you to apply early.

  • Entering grades 9-12 in the fall. (qualified younger students may enroll with an audition and a teacher recommendation)
  • Audition - see requirements below.
  • A recommendation from your music teacher.
  • An audition demo is required: 10-minute maximum. All auditions must be submitted as a high-quality video file or a YouTube link. Send your demos to: youngmusicianscamp@gmail.com
  • Submit a video of your performance of 2 contrasting rock songs, preferably in a small rock group.
  • All bass, guitar, and wind players must bring their own instrument to Camp. Bass players and guitarists should also bring their amp, cable, and a cart. Dorm participants may rent an amp from the camp.
  • In each Session, ensembles will learn different music.
  • *There is limited enrollment for bass, drums, and piano.

HIGH SCHOOL ROCK PROGRAM

ROCK SEMINAR
Faculty will discuss what makes a rock band great, music biz - how to get gigs, the ins and outs of recording, rock theory, and more!
(vocalists may select Voice Seminar)

10:15 - 11:15

TECHNIQUE CLASS
Contemporary Drum, Bass, Honors Rock Guitar, Keyboard (vocalists may select Piano or Guitar Technique, or our new "A Cappella Vocal Ensemble.")

11:30 - 12:00

LUNCH (Lunch is included in the camp tuition)
In the UM Cafeteria, you will be able to select from the grill (hamburgers, hot dogs, French fries), salad bar, pizza, hot meal of the day, and the deli. Fresh fruits, desserts, and beverages are all included.

12:15 - 1:15

ROCK FORUM - performance, gigging, and audition tips, faculty concert, talent show, jam session, master classes, panel discussions and more!

Private Instruction: Individual lessons with the Camp faculty.

PRIVATE LESSONS

Private lessons given by our camp staff may be scheduled after regular dismissal. The lessons are one hour long and all of the instructors are part of our camp faculty. The classes are held daily except for the last day of the session. When you register, you can select the day that you want. The camp cannot re-schedule a missed private lesson.

Supervised before is available.

BUS TRANSPORTATION

Available from Broward, North Miami-Dade, and Miami Beach with sufficient enrollment. REQUESTS FOR THIS SERVICE MUST BE RECEIVED BY APRIL 15.

HOW TO APPLY

  • Review the Daily Schedule to learn about the classes offered, and choose your Electives and Optional Classes.
  • The Camp will email our "Teacher Recommendation Form" to your child's music teacher. This is to confirm that your camper is in the correct level. Make sure you know the e-mail address of your school or private music teacher before you start to register.
