If you want to be surrounded 24/7 with kids from all over the US and other countries, if you think you may want to be a music major in a college like UM, if you know that performing is what you want to do - THEN - this is the place for you!

Be coached by concert artists in the art of playing Chamber Music!

Highly talented and motivated musicians are invited to apply to our HONORS CLASSICAL CHAMBER MUSIC PROGRAM. Students will have a daily private coaching of their Honors Chamber Music Group, plus classes such as Orchestra, Piano Duet Ensemble, and Honors Music Theory. After completing this program, students will have a good idea of what it is like to be a student at the Frost School of Music!

Experience this unique opportunity to be coached in a small group setting by our world - renowned honors faculty.

REQUIREMENTS

DEADLINE: This Program has limited enrollment. Qualified students are accepted within 2 weeks after submitting their audition. Applications submitted AFTER APRIL 30 will be placed on a waiting list. We encourage you to apply early.

  • For Piano and String players and entering grades 9-12. (extremely talented younger students are welcome to apply. Please also consider auditioning for our Honors Intermediate Classical Music Program in Session A - click here)
  • If you study privately, then you should be studying highly advanced repertoire, including technical studies. Pianists should be working on Beethoven Sonatas, Chopin Etudes, or equivalent repertoire.
  • Your music teacher will be asked to submit a recommendation for you.
  • An audition demo, 10-minute maximum. All auditions must be submitted as a high - quality video file or a YouTube link. Send your demos to: youngmusicianscamp@gmail.com
  • Specific Requirements for auditions: Two representative solo works of contrasting styles that demonstrate your technical facility, tone, and interpretation from the standard classical repertoire.
  • After you are accepted, you will be assigned chamber music that has been especially selected for you. Participants are expected to download the music and LEARN THEIR PART FLUENTLY BEFORE THE CAMP SESSION BEGINS. NOTE: THIS IS A REQUIREMENT IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS PROGRAM. CAMPERS WHO ARRIVE AT CAMP WHO ARE UNABLE TO PLAY THEIR ASSIGNED HONORS MUSIC, WILL BE AUTOMATICALLY PLACED IN THE HIGH SCHOOL CLASSICAL MUSIC PROGRAM.

SEMINARS - Orchestra and Piano
Learn the skill of listening - what makes a great orchestra or a great solo performance truly amazing, work on All-State prep and auditions, get tips on the art of effective practicing, and much more!

10:15 - 11:15

MUSIC THEORY
Our theory classes use the innovative Frost School of Music experiential model, created by Dean Berg, which incorporates ear training and improvisation.

11:30 - 12:00

LUNCH (Lunch is included in the camp tuition)
In the UM Cafeteria, you will be able to select from the grill (hamburgers, hot dogs, French fries), salad bar, pizza, hot meal of the day, and the deli. Fresh fruits, desserts, and beverages are all included.

12:15 - 1:15

ELECTIVE
Honors Chamber Music - supervised practice session, plus faculty concert and talent show.

HONORS CHAMBER MUSIC

ENSEMBLE
Piano Duet Ensemble: Pianists are grouped in pairs to study duets and duos.
Orchestra: Our conductor is simply awesome! Be prepared to perform some challenging repertoire!

PRIVATE LESSONS

Private lessons given by our camp staff may be scheduled after regular dismissal. The lessons are one hour long and all of the instructors are part of our camp faculty. The classes are held daily except for the last day of the session. When you register, you can select the day that you want. The camp cannot re-schedule a missed private lesson.

HOW TO APPLY

  • Enrollment is limited for this program. You will be notified of your acceptance after the camp receives ALL application materials: Online Registration, Application Fee, Teacher Recommendation, and Audition Demo. Your full deposit (plus the dorm deposit if you are staying in the dorm) is due within 3 days after receiving your acceptance letter.
  • Review the Daily Schedule to learn about the classes offered, and choose your elective.
  • The Camp will email our "Teacher Recommendation Form" to your child's music teacher. This is to confirm that your camper is in the correct level. Make sure you know the e-mail address of your school or private music teacher before you start to register.
