PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The curriculum of this program is based on the Frost School of Music's Bruce Hornsby Creative American Music Songwriting Program.

Students will work intensively on their craft under the guidance of Frost School of Music faculty and industry experts. They will also learn essential production skills and record their originals with Grammy award winning producers/engineers, learn the principals of the music business, form a band and write together, and hone their performance skills while working towards a final show.

Our mission is to bring together students from diverse cultural backgrounds and provide a challenging college-level experience. We are proud to say that a number of our students have gone on to major in these programs at UM and other major universities!

REQUIREMENTS

Songwriters enrolling in the Advanced Program should submit a video file or YouTube link of your personal performance of 2 original songs, plus a pdf file of the lyrics.
All auditions must be submitted as high-quality video files or a YouTube link. Send your demos to: youngmusicianscamp@gmail.com
All bass and guitar should bring their amps, cable and a cart. (dorm participants may rent an amp from the camp). All vocalists should bring a mic and XLR cable.

FROST SUMMER CONTEMPORARY SONGWRITING INTENSIVE
DAILY SCHEDULE (9:00 A.M. - 4:30 P.M.)

9:00 - 10:00	MUSIC PRODUCTION TECHNIQUES Students will learn production skills and apply them to the original songs they compose during camp.
10:15 - 11:15	MUSIC BIZ & DIGITAL BRANDING This class is devoted to teaching the different parts of the music industry in a hands-on fashion while honing each student's artist social branding. You will need to bring a laptop, iPad, or tablet to class.
11:30 - 12:00	LUNCH (Lunch is included in the camp tuition: hot dogs, french fries, salad bar, pizza.) In the UM Cafeteria, you will be able to select from the grill (hamburgers, hot dogs, French fries), salad bar, pizza, hot meal of the day, and the deli. Fresh fruits, desserts, and beverages are all included.
12:15 - 1:15	ENSEMBLE: Contemporary Pop Vocal Ensemble
1:30 - 2:45	SONGWRITING SESSIONS: Songwriters will get coached by Frost faculty to create original songs in co-writing pairs which will be performed at the final show.
3:00 - 4:30	MAKING THE BAND: Students will be put into bands to write and arrange songs to perform at the final show.
4:30	DISMISSAL
4:40 - 5:40	OPTIONAL CLASSES (separate fees apply) Private Instruction: Individual lessons with the Camp faculty.

PRIVATE LESSONS

Private lessons given by our camp staff may be scheduled after regular dismissal. The lessons are one hour long and all of the instructors are part of our camp faculty. The classes are held daily, except for the last day of the session. Once your camper has attended all the daily classes and met the faculty, email the camp the following information: name of professor your child would like a lesson with and on what instrument. Send to: youngmusicianscamp@gmail.com and we will tell you the days the professor is available for lessons. The camp cannot re-schedule a missed private lesson.

HOW TO APPLY

Please follow these steps to Register:

Click on the "Register Here" Link for the Track that applies to you below. The Link will take you to the Session Selection Page and the Cart for your Program. There is no need to filter or search for your Program on the Session Selection Page as long as you used the correct "Register Here" Link for your specific Program. Make sure you know the e-mail address of your music teacher. Also, please decide if you want to add an optional class and/or a private lesson for an additional fee.

On the Session Selection Page, Click on the "ADD TO CART" Link for your Program. Make sure the Program Name and Track are correct. Your Program will automatically move into "YOUR SHOPPING CART". Click on the CONTINUE Link in the Shopping Cart, which will take you to the Registration Information Page where you can begin the registration process.

Complete the following information to Register.

Section 1: Enter Your Email Address and Click "NEXT".
Section 2: Enter Participants & Options. Complete the required Participant Information. "Session Options" for your program will be pre-selected. Additional classes offered appear as "Optional Classes" and may be selected by checking the appropriate Box or Boxes. Click CONTINUE.
Section 3: Please complete the Registration Forms, including the Waivers and Agreements, and sign your Digital Signature. Click "CONTINUE TO CART".

Review Cart & Check out. Review the accuracy of the "ORDER DETAILS". If you have a Coupon Code, enter it now.

Go to the "CHECK OUT" Section and select either "PAY IN FULL" or "Pay $0.00 now, and then Pay Balance manually".

Click COMPLETE and you will receive a Confirmation E-mail with the details of your Order.

You can login to your Online account at any time to verify your registration and pay your balance. A $200 deposit is required to reserve your child's place and an additional $200 to reserve the Dormitory. This includes your $40 ($75 after April 1) non-refundable Registration Fee. Deposits are due within 10 days of registration. There will be NO refunds issued except for a documented medical emergency. Full payment is due 1 month prior to the start of each session.
