Imagine your child playing Classical Music and exploring new things on the beautiful University of Miami Frost School of Music campus...

If your child is between the ages of 6-10 (entering grades 2-5) and has studied Piano or a String Instrument for at least one year, then our Elementary CLASSICAL MUSIC Program is right for you!

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

This program is the perfect introduction to our Music Camp. Our goal is to make sure your child is learning, but at the same time having fun too! As a parent, this is a great way to nurture a love of music in your child. Surrounded by their peers, children feel comfortable while trying out new things! The camp also provides a safe environment for our campers. Counselors escort the children throughout the day and are also on hand to help them in their activities. And don't forget to save the date- we end camp with a concert where every child performs with their class!

REQUIREMENTS

  • Entering grades 2-5 in the fall / ages 6-10.
  • Has studied Piano or a String Instrument for at least one year.
  • All applicants who meet the above requirements may enroll in the Camp.
  • All string players must bring their own instrument to Camp.

ELEMENTARY CLASSICAL MUSIC PROGRAM
DAILY SCHEDULE (9:00 A.M. - 3:00 P.M.)

CHORUS
Everybody starts the day off by singing in our fun camp choir!

10:00 - 10:15

SNACK BREAK

10:15 - 11:15

ENSEMBLE
Piano Ensemble: Pianists learn how to play together with other pianists in our state-of-the art piano lab.
String Ensemble: String players play in a group that explores classical music, plus some fun jazz and modern music as well!

11:30 - 12:00

LUNCH (Lunch is included in the camp tuition)
After our morning classes, we take a short walk to the UM cafeteria. Campers will be able to select from the grill (hamburgers, hot dogs, French fries), salad bar, pizza, hot meal of the day, and the deli. There are also fresh fruits, desserts, beverages, and daily specials.

ALL ABOUT MUSIC!
Using games and fun activities campers will gain skills in reading and writing music.

STOMP
Unique to the Frost Young Musicians' Camp - the goal of Stomp is to improve rhythm - important for every kind of musician. We also work on the camper's concentration skills and their ability to follow a conductor.

REGULAR DISMISSAL

PRIVATE LESSONS

Private lessons given by our camp staff may be scheduled after regular dismissal. We suggest 30 minute lessons for this age and level.

EXTENDED CARE

Supervised before and after care is available.
Before Care: 7:15 am - 9:00 am
After Care: 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm

BUS TRANSPORTATION

Bus transportation to the camp, located on the campus of the University of Miami in Coral Gables, is provided by a private bus company. If you do not see a location near your home, please contact the camp. It may be possible for us to add an additional location on one of our routes! (Note: the afternoon bus departs at the regular camp dismissal time of 3:45. Your child will be supervised in our after-care room from 2:45 - 3:45).

HOW TO APPLY

  • Review the Daily Schedule to learn about the classes offered.
  • The Camp will email our "Teacher Recommendation Form" to your child's music teacher. This is to confirm that your camper is in the correct level. Make sure you know the e-mail address of your school or private music teacher before you start to register.
