If you will be entering grades 2-5 in the fall and have studied a string instrument or piano for 1-3 years, then our Elementary Classical Music Program is right for you!

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION


The Elementary Classical Music Program hours are 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Campers arrive in the morning at the University of Miami Frost School of Music and are greeted by their camp counselor. They start the day playing in our String or Piano Ensemble. We take a snack break and then it's on to Chorus! After that it's time to head off to the UM cafeteria for lunch! After lunch, campers meet in their Ensemble groups again, followed by our creative Stomp and Adventures in Reading Music class. The day ends with Creative Movement. On the last day, campers present a performance in one of our beautiful concert halls.



REQUIREMENTS


  • Entering grades 2-5 in the fall.
  • Has studied a String instrument or Piano for 1-3 years.
  • All applicants who meet our program requirements may enroll in the Camp!

PLEASE NOTE: All string players must bring their own instrument to camp.



HOW TO APPLY


  • The camp will email our "Teacher Recommendation Form" to your child's music teacher (school or private). This is to confirm that your camper is in the correct level. Make sure you know the e-mail address before starting to register.

ENSEMBLE

Piano Ensemble: Pianists learn how to play together with other pianists in our state-of-the art piano lab.

String Ensemble: String players play in an group that explores classical music, plus some fun jazz and modern music as well!

CHORUS

Singing is a fun way to learn about reading music and also to develop listening skills

LUNCH (Lunch is included in the camp tuition)

After our morning classes, we take a short walk to the UM cafeteria. Campers will be able to select from the grill (hamburgers, hot dogs, French fries), salad bar, pizza, hot meal of the day, and the deli. There are also fresh fruits, desserts, beverages, and daily specials.

Pianists and String Players will work on their instrument technique, have fun with being creative, and improve their performance skills.

STOMP & ADVENTURES in READING MUSIC

Unique to the Frost Young Musicians' Camp - the goal of Stomp is to improve rhythm - important for every kind of musician. We also work on camper's concentration skills and their ability to follow a conductor. Campers will also study Music Theory which will improve their music reading skills.
