PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

With a full schedule filled with intensive classes, at the end of the session you will leave with a deeper understanding of what Classical Music is all about. The curriculum includes Piano and Orchestra Seminars where you will learn how to listen and analyze music performances in an in-depth way, plus other topics relating to performance. Students will spend a substantial part of their day in our performance ensembles such as: Orchestra, Piano Duet ensembles, Wind Ensemble, and Contemporary String Ensemble.

REQUIREMENTS

  • For Piano, Strings, and Winds.
  • Entering grades 9-12 in the fall.
  • Recommended minimum of 3 years experience on your instrument.
  • Qualified younger students should submit a teacher recommendation and send a 5 minute audition of a solo performance.

SEMINARS - Orchestra and Piano
Learn the skill of listening - what makes a great orchestra or a great solo performance truly amazing, work on All-State prep and auditions, get tips on the art of effective practicing, and much more!

10:15 - 11:15

MUSIC THEORY
Our theory classes use the innovative Frost School of Music experiential model, created by Dean Berg, which incorporates ear training and improvisation.

11:30 - 12:00

LUNCH (Lunch is included in the camp tuition)
In the UM Cafeteria, you will be able to select from the grill (hamburgers, hot dogs, French fries), salad bar, pizza, hot meal of the day, and the deli. Fresh fruits, desserts, and beverages are all included.

12:15 - 1:15

FORUMS: master classes, practice time, talent show, panel discussions, faculty concerts, and more!

1:30 - 2:45

ENSEMBLES
Wind Ensemble, Contemporary String Ensemble, Piano Skills Ensemble (sight reading, technique, improvising, harmonization)

3:00 - 4:30

ENSEMBLES
Piano Duet Ensemble: Pianists are grouped in pairs to study duets and duos.
Orchestra: Our conductor is simply awesome! Be prepared to perform some challenging repertoire!

OPTIONAL CLASSES (separate fees apply)
You really don't want to leave camp so soon...
Jazz Rock Jam: jam out and have fun trying out your new skills in improv!
Chamber Music: play in a trio or quartet, coached by our faculty.
Private Instruction: Individual lessons with the Camp faculty.

PRIVATE LESSONS

Private lessons given by our camp staff may be scheduled after regular dismissal. The lessons are one hour long and all of the instructors are part of our camp faculty. The classes are held daily except for the last day of the session. When you register, you can select the day that you want. The camp cannot re-schedule a missed private lesson.

HOW TO APPLY

  • Review the Daily Schedule to learn about the classes offered, and choose your electives and optional classes.
  • The Camp will email our "Teacher Recommendation Form" to your child's music teacher. This is to confirm that your camper is in the correct level. Make sure you know the e-mail address of your school or private music teacher before you start to register.
